I have been storing in two units on two different floors at Public Storage Kapiolani for several years: At the units, I have consistently run across Kris checking locks keeping our units safe and sweeping up. She works so hard. Kris is also very professional and helpful when manning the front desk. She has helped make the difference between my staying or moving to a different storage facility. I just met Tad today while he manned the front desk. He also was very professional and helpful. Hao has also been so helpful in the past. These employees really have made a difference for me.

I never write reviews, but I am so disheartened by this company's business practices that I am feeling in my heart to write this in the hope that it will help others not make the same mistake that I did for my family. It's hard financially living in Hawai`i, but we stay here because we love being close to our `aina and 'ohana, as we are a Native Hawaiian household. It makes us sad that there are companies here just to reap profit off of the backs of every day hardworking folks. This company sounds great at the onset, and maybe other locations are different, but this Kapiolani Blvd location does not have your best interests at heart. It is not a fair deal they are after —they are blatantly after enriching themselves. You are lured in by a great rate for a storage unit, but save yourself the heartache of storage rent increases without even being notified and being mandated to pay insurance for your items in storage (the policy they offer is $15 a mo for a $5,000 policy —ridiculous) added to your monthly rent AND added rent tax! When we got this unit less than 2 years ago, our rent for a 10x10 was about $150. We are now paying over $400. We were never notified of any increase through the months we've been there. It's smells horribly of predatory business practices, and it makes my heart sad that companies like this strive to make fistful of profits for them and their shareholders without any concern for their patrons —it's really quite devaluing of humanity. Whatever happened to making a fair trade, fair deal....these guys are the epitome of what greed looks like —we are going to move our stuff out and use a different storage company. For reference, we have another storage unit (same size) with a different company that we have been renting from since 2009 and they only raised our rent 1x. And guess what, it's for the same exact same size and we are only paying $130 a month. There's still some bucks that we need to pay, but it's a fair trade in this economy. Public Storage is a money making machine for their corporate owners. Yes, it is a publicly traded company (NYSE: ticker symbol PSA) Vanguard Group, BlackRock, and State Street Corp hold the majority of shares, totaling over 80% as of 2025. These guys do not care that they are gouging you as long as they are making a profit. Humanity goes out the window. We will never be a holder of their stock. If you actually read their contract which I am embarrassingly just reading thoroughly now, they state "You will not store valuables in your space or the facility..." and also state that there is a "Total value limit of $5,000" of what you store in the space that YOU are renting! (and they point blank state that "...you release us from any liability, loss or damage..." This is absurd —as you read through the whole contract it truly is just for their betterment (not yours!). Writing this only in hopes that someone will be prevented from falling for their enticing "first month for $1" scheme. These guys don't care about you, their mission has been made abundantly clear, which is to take as much profit as they can without any concern for you. Greed, plain and simple.

There is an employee at this Public Storage on Kapiolani that deserves a special shout out. Her name is Kris and I can't say enough wonderful things about her. She is cheerful, helpful and has an incredibly positive attitude . She is always polite and professional and goes out of her way to get the best deal for you with regard to pricing a unit. I hope that the people who she works for realize what a treasure they have.
