Went to my unit to find a different lock on it. Called and after 20 minutes or so, was told the manager was headed to see me at my unit. After looking confused herself, she finally tells me that my unit had been broken into. I almost had a heart attack when she opened my unit. Boxes were tipped over and so much stuff was gone! AND THEY NEVER EVEN NOTIFIED ME!!! And looking back at the reviews, that seems to be a real pattern here. I lost sentimental items that cannot be replaced too. I also asked them for a feee month since I had just paid my storage that day. Never got an answer so I guess that’s a NO. I’m probably gonna go back to UHaul storage in Carlsbad because I never had an issue there at all in the two years I was there.. I’ve only been at this storage facility for a few months too. And lost everything I own.

Ok, had to come back here again. After the terrible service they provided me when I signed up. Guess what? Just got a call, saying that someone broke into my storage unit LAST MONDAY (8 days ago) and stole my belongings. I was informed by the manager that they don't have cameras on the second floor neither any security person working there. Totally negligent. I would never recommend this place. One of the worst experiences I have ever had. They keep messing up.

I originally signed the rental agreement here for a 5x10 upstairs unit when it was still Carlsbad Airport Self Storage, managed by StorAmerica, back in August 2023. The pricing then was $99 per month, all totaled. NSA Storage bought the property either in late 2023 or early 2024 and eventually changed it to SecurCare. Between March 2024 and February 2025, they raised the price on my unit THREE TIMES, so I now pay $130 per month ($112 rent plus $17 insurance). Raising the rent three times in less than a year seemed shady, but I shrugged it off, as that was only slightly more expensive than the prices of others in the area when we had initially been looking. This past Sunday we tried to visit our unit for the first time in a few months. The gate code we'd been originally assigned and have been using since the day we signed the rental agreement didn't work, and the box at the gate said our code was "not recognized." As the office is closed on Sundays, there wasn't much we could do and just went home and decided to come back on Monday afternoon. As it turns out, they had updated their system recently, and my code had been changed. The woman at the desk was friendly and got our code changed back, but she never asked for my ID or any other form of identification. I told her our unit number, she said my name, and I said "yes, that's me." That is NOT secure. Any random person could walk in, claim they're renting a unit, and gain an access code by lying about who they are. While that lack of security is a major problem that should be addressed, it's not my primary issue. After coming to leave a 3-star review about the security issue, I noticed many other recent comments about how affordable it is. Since that's not the word I would use by a stretch, I decided to check their prices on their website. The unit we're currently renting, a 5x10 indoor upstairs unit, is listed at only $66 per month!! I was shocked. I had to double check that I was looking at the correct location, because SURELY that must be a mistake. But no, it is the SecurCare at 1910 Palomar Oaks Way. Even if that doesn't account for the insurance fee, that is still ALMOST HALF what they've been charging me since February 2025. I am furious that as a renter who has been there LONGER THAN THE COMPANY WHO NOW OWNS IT, not only was my rental cost not grandfathered in, but my rent has actually been raised HIGHER than what they advertise! I feel scammed and taken advantage of. It's appalling to me that they would scam longtime, loyal customers like this. There are plenty nicer storage facilities to rent in the area at the price we're paying, but we liked this place and didn't want to deal with transferring all our stuff to a new location. But knowing that they're treating us as suckers makes me see this place in a new light! If you're comfortable renting from a scam company that might raise your rent 30% over the course of 11 months, well beyond their actual offered prices, here are some things you should know about the facility: -There are security cameras scattered throughout the outside. I've never noticed any inside where the bulk of the storage units are. -The upkeep is standard for a storage facility. It looks nicely kept outside, and inside people will abandon items and trash. -It is impossible to find a cart, because no one puts them back where they go. We eventually invested in a small, collapsible flatbed dolly from CostCo. -It is not climate controlled, so the building is freezing in the winter and sweltering in the summer. Bring plenty of cold water in the summer. -During the hotter months, water condenses on the pipes running throughout, which then drip and cause small puddles on the floor in front of units. -The office staff is friendly.
