Solo Storage

I left this review 2 years ago and it mysteriously disappeared so I'll give it another go. I rented the covered outside storge from this place for 2 years for my boat. It was an easy drive from there to the boat launch on Water Street. Shortly after being a tenant, we called and left several messages about the swallows that were crapping all over our boat and others in the storage area. With no response from management my girlfriend left a review with pictures of the bird mess. That was the first time we were threaten with being kicked out if the review was not deleted. Since it was about the only covered storage available in the Port Huron area and the owner of this place owns about every other storge place in the area she took down the review and we covered the boat with more tarps each time we parked it. This spring we arrived to find the boat had been ransacked & both batteries stolen along with several tools and a inflatable raft. When I went into the office to speak to the operation manager, he immediately got defensive about the situation. I told him that I know they are not responsible and that I was just giving them a heads up and that I did file a police report. He then said " well, if you don't like it here you should just find somewhere else to store your boat" which is pretty much what I expected him to say. I then pointed out to him that maybe they should fix the 2 foot gap in the front fence on the east side of the building as I'm sure that is probably how they got into the back storage area and walked out to go fix my boat. An hour later as I was installing my 2 new batteries he drove back and informed me that based on my bird shit complaint and my new complaint that my month-to-month lease would not be renewed and to have my boat out by the end of the month. Another odd thing is no employee will ever give you their name - on the phone, in person or even the letter I recieved17 days later signed by "Director of Operations Solo Storage" with a scribbled signature. Very unprofessional

By far the worst experience I have ever had renting a U-Haul from ANY location. Had an after hours reservation for Sunday afternoon. Arrive at my designated time, find that the truck I have rented that was supposed to have both an appliance and furniture dolly has neither one. Turns out the store cancelled them because they had none in stock but failed to inform me of this even though they did it the day before when they were open. Had to spend 2 hours on the phone with customer service only to be sent to a second location in order to get a single hand dolly. Upon starting the truck and going to the second location, that the truck only has a half tank of gas, the breaks are bad and so is the axel as the entire truck shakes uncontrollably while being driven. Had to get a smaller truck from the second location that was actually safe to drive. Lost two hours of moving time. Then they have the audacity to charge me full price and a cleaning fee when I return it clean. GO TO THE ACE HARDWARE LOCATION THEY ARE AMAZING. This Howard Location is a joke and should be shut down.

Unethical business practices at this location good thing U-Haul stands behind their customers!!!! Watch your bills for incorrect information and make sure they don’t try sneaking fees in days later! U-Haul provided me a refund but definitely would spend extra money to not use this location! And the employee bold faced lied right to me about the charges and policy and threatened me as I was leaving ! Wish I could give zero stars I’m sure I’ll get a snarky reply as well ……
